What We Do

How We Get It Done

Free To Build Works With Institutions And Individuals

Local Government

We help cities with ready-to-run policies and technical assistance promoting housing abundance.

State Government

We're advancing practical, real-world solutions for more starter homes in Utah.

Nonprofits

Our goal: Be the partner of choice for every organization working on Utah housing issues.

We focus on solutions to high housing costs that don't cost taxpayers anything.

The Organizations Behind Free To Build

Local Effectiveness, National Reach

Libertas Institute is a Utah-based think tank and educational organization. Eighty-five percent of Libertas policy proposals are successfully enacted into law; using strategy and persuasive communication to inform the public and educate elected officials, Libertas generates the political will — and results.

Better Cities Project is the nation’s only public-policy nonprofit solely focused on practical, market-oriented policy solutions for cities and counties. More than 35,000 mayors, city council members and county commissioners rely on BCP’s work to create communities where residents can live happier, freer lives.

Our Team

Working For A Better Utah

We’re working with local officials, neighbors and organizations across Utah to make housing more abundant and more affordable — and there’s a role for you, too!

We Know The Best Solutions Are Local, Flexible And Based On Community Feedback

Our priority is a bigger, better set of tools for Utah cities and counties, not new state mandates, and not just more apartments everywhere.
